If there’s one thing Toy Story has always reminded us, it’s that no toy gets left behind. Even when a toy is scuffed, broken, or missing a piece, it still has value — because every toy has a story. That’s exactly what inspired my latest project: giving Buzz Lightyear a brand-new look in shimmering cobalt metallic armor. Why Buzz Needed a Makeover I’ve been slowly building my Toy Story collection, starting with Jessie and working my way toward Woody, Buzz, and Rex. Like many collectors, I’ve seen photos of rare metallic Buzz Lightyear variants floating around online — exclusives that were released in limited numbers over the years. But I never had one myself, and honestly, I don’t remember ever seeing them in stores. So I decided: why not create my own? This wasn’t about “ruining” a toy — it was about celebrating Buzz in a new way. He’s still the same Space Ranger we know and love, but now he shines with an upgraded look that feels like a Super Command edition straight out of Star Command headquarters. The Process: From Classic to Cobalt Armed with a couple of bottles of Hobby Lobby craft paint — metallic cobalt blue — I set out to transform Buzz’s classic suit. The result? Buzz now looks like he’s ready for an elite mission — upgraded, battle-tested, and still very much the hero of Andy’s room. What This Makeover Means I love how Toy Story constantly reminds us that toys (and people) can always be renewed. A little creativity can turn something ordinary into something extraordinary. Buzz’s new cobalt armor isn’t about covering flaws — it’s about showing how even a classic toy can evolve while keeping its heart. And of course, this makeover ties right back into the spirit of Pixar nostalgia. For long-time fans and collectors, it’s a nod to those rare metallic editions. For me, it’s a personal project that celebrates the idea that toys are family — and family doesn’t get left behind. Watch the Transformation I filmed the full repaint process so you can see Buzz’s journey from classic to cobalt in real time. The History of Blow-Mold Sippers In the mid-20th century, Disney licensed companies to produce a wide range of blow-mold plastic figures. These hollow, lightweight figures were inexpensive to make and incredibly durable, which is why so many children carried them around at picnics, birthday parties, and even theme park visits. Mickey and Minnie sippers blurred the line between toy and souvenir — you could drink from them, display them, or simply keep them as playthings. Because they looked so much like the popular coin banks of the same era, many ended up on bedroom shelves long after their straws disappeared. Why Finding the Pair Matters What makes these particular sippers so special is the fact that Mickey and Minnie survived together. Usually, these cups were sold separately, and families might have kept one or the other. Over time, many cracked, faded, or were discarded. To find the pair in such good condition — still vibrant in their painted details — is rare. Displayed side by side, they radiate the cheerful energy of Main Street U.S.A., as if they’ve been waving from a parade float for decades. A Nostalgic Display Piece These Mickey and Minnie sippers have become part of my Technicolor Memories collection. They’re not just collectibles — they’re conversation starters, memory keepers, and little time capsules of Disney merchandising history. Whether you grew up with one on your dresser or you’re just discovering them now, they’re a reminder of how Disney magic always found its way into the everyday. Remember Saturday mornings with cartoons, cereal, and a prize in the box? That childhood magic is back — but with a wicked twist! I’ve created a full set of Lost Villain Cereal Boxes you can make at home. Each printable design features a bold cartoon villain mascot on the front, and a Fun Zone activity panel on the back (mazes, riddles, word scrambles, and cut-outs!). Whether you’re a Disney fan, a crafter, or just someone who loves nostalgia, this is a project you can enjoy year-round — not just at Halloween. What Is the Lost Villain Cereal Collection? Inspired by the quirky Funko cereals of 2019, this craft reimagines what might have been if the villains had their own Saturday morning cereals. I designed six parody boxes, each one themed after a different classic villain archetype: Sea Witch Bites (NEW bonus design!) Flaming Crunch Royal Apple Crunch Crazy Dots Crunch Savanna Crunch Captain Cruncher Heart Tarts Crunch Each design is 8.5x11 printable size so you can glue it onto any cereal box at home. How to Make Your Own Villain Cereal Box Supplies: 1 regular cereal box (full or empty) Printed villain cereal front + back panels (available on my Patreon) Scissors Glue stick or double-sided tape Optional: clear contact paper for a glossy finish Steps: 1. When it comes to Toy Story nostalgia, Jessie has always held a special place in my heart. I’ve had Woody, Buzz, and Bullseye represented on my shelves for a while now, but Jessie—our yodeling cowgirl from Woody’s Roundup—was missing. After a few twists and turns, I’m finally excited to say she’s here! The Long Road to Jessie I actually tried to add Jessie to my collection once before. I ordered her through Goodwill.com, but after waiting over a month and a half with no shipment, I finally had to ask for a refund. Later, I spotted her at the Disney outlet store in Las Vegas, but the thought of dragging her back in my suitcase (or asking my parents to drop her off at the post office) made me hold back. Jessie kept slipping away from me—until now. Woody’s Roundup Edition The Jessie I have now isn’t a Toy Story 4 release, but a Disney Pixar Woody’s Roundup talking figure. She comes in themed packaging with “Woody’s Roundup” across the top and the classic red yarn hair we all know and love. Her box proudly reads “Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl”, and she’s interactive—equipped with over 20 phrases and a “toy detector” feature that allows her to recognize and respond when other Toy Story characters are nearby. This detail makes her feel like she’s stepped right out of the film and onto my shelf. First Impressions I love that this Jessie has such a classic look. From her cowgirl hat and embroidered western shirt to the cow-print chaps and belt buckle, she looks just like she leapt off the screen. Pulling her string instantly brought me back to the fun of the Toy Story movies and reminded me how much charm Jessie’s character adds to the Roundup Gang. Why She Matters Jessie isn’t just another toy on the shelf. She represents loyalty, friendship, and a reminder of the importance of play. For collectors like me, adding her means completing my collection. |
